Bacteria include some of the fastest evolving species that we know. They are also one of the oldest. They have coexisted with almost all other life forms either as mutualists (symbionts), or pathogens. My broad area of interest is to see how this co-existence has shaped the evolutionary history of both bacteria (as they adapt to the enriched environment provide by the host) and the host species they associate with. Currently in the lab, I am looking at insect gut flora as a model for such interactions.
Outside the lab, I love to try out new (vegetarian) cuisines, reading books, and learning new sports. Currently, I am trying to learn how to swim.
